Dana on different ways to exfoliating your skin
This week we are talking different types of exfoliators with our skin-therapist Dana, see what she has to say.
There are two main types of peels - mechanical (or physical) and chemical.
Mechanical peeling helps to buff the dead skin cells from its surface. This method invigorates and gets rid of dull skin. Mechanical Peel usually consists of physical particles such as granules (crushed walnut shell, silica, microcrystalline, to name a few).
The chemical peeling (AHA's & BHA's) work more internally within the epidermis, by lowering the natural pH's level of the skin and triggering controlled "skin trauma". Skin is then forced to work twice hard to repair itself, stimulating the skin cell turnover, decongesting follicles and breaking down fats.
- There is an exfoliator for everyone. Whether your skin is dry, oily or sensitive, exfoliation is an important stage in a skincare routine. It does what a cleanser won't do, keeping your complexion clean and youthful.
-If you have oily, acne-prone skin- I would avoid using a mechanical exfoliator. By pressing it into the skin, it can stimulate the spread of bacteria under the skin and cause more outbreaks.
- If you have sensitive skin, stay away from more aggressive chemical exfoliators such as Salicylic and Glycolic Acids.
The Björk and Berries Exfoliating products are:
